They expand their own analytical skills and are able to recognise how writers use language to develop setting, imagery, symbolism and emotion.
In Upper School, students follow courses in German that suit their level in the language.

Second language speakers work towards qualifications which challenge them to expand their skills in the language. Provision is made for students learning that language at various levels.
IGCSE Mathematics provides the opportunity for all students, whatever their ability, to gain an appreciation of the importance of Mathematics in society, employment and study.
In addition to the academic requirements, the course enables pupils to enjoy using and applying mathematical techniques and concepts, thus gaining confidence in the use of mathematics to solve problems.
The course provides a strong foundation for further study and focusses on the key areas of number, algebra, shape and space and handling data.
Some students follow an accelerated programme and have the opportunity to take advanced qualifications in Mathematics at this Level.
Students follow a ‘double’ course in combined science. This includes courses in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and results in two IGCSE qualifications.
This route provides a strong foundation for further study in Science. All IGCSE science qualifications stress the importance of scientific method and encourage practical work wherever appropriate. The curriculum has been designed so that subjects are specific in depth and detail and include practical experiments which students are expected to carry out during the course.
The language option allows students to further develop their skills in a third modern European language.

They learn to identify design needs and use a variety of processes to solve these. Through practical projects, students learn to manipulate a range of different materials and effectively evaluate their outcomes.
The IGCSE course in Physical Education allows students to explore both the practical and theoretical aspects of this field. Students take part in a broad range of different physical activities and are required to develop skills in a diverse types of sport. They learn how to carry out activities both safely and effectively, whilst simultaneously exploring the world of physiology, health science and other important training practices.
